The product key is valid for reinstalls. There is no limit to reinstalls on the same hardware. If you change hardware that is a different issue, it may require Microsoft to reactivate.

Hey Everyone

I have recently bought Windows 8 Pro Upgrade from Amazon, but I was just wondering if anyone know how often the Product Key can be used? I don't really want it to be a one time use key, as if something goes wrong, then I will be screwed.... right?

The below is what I have ordered:
Windows 8 Pro, Upgrade Edition [Upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7] (PC): Amazon.co.uk: Software

Thanks

Melloorr
Reinstalling on the same machine should not be a problem--probably not even if you change significant hardware (worst case would be having to do phone activation). Note, however, that, after reinstalling Win8, you are likely to have to use the refresh procedure described in the first part of this tutorial to activate: Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade. Also, if you install on a different machine, you probably will have to do telephone activation.

Ahh, so if I use the key, then I get a new motherboard, then I should be able to just reinstall windows 7, and use the upgrade key again?

Ahh, that will be very useful, when I finally get my key. Thanks :)

But you would have though that seeing as it is just the Product Key I needed, that Amazon would just email me it, but apparently not :(

But I guess it saves paying £189 for the professional version

I've lost count of how many times I've used my key... I tend to install and uninstall and reinstall OSes frequently - it's a sickness '-)

Always on the same hardware, though - my understanding is that you might have to call in to HQ and explain what's going on if you change hardware. I'm not sure how much of your hardware had to change before it gets flagged as "changed" - not sure the algorithm they use for this...

See my prior post. Win7 reinstalled; not necessary.

If you are buying a key from a third party, through Amazon, you should be very wary. There has been a lot of fraud reported, through multi sales of the same key.
From your post, I would suspect that you may, already, be a victim?

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.

Why do you say that? I made sure to order from Amazon, and not anyone selling through amazon. Also, I haven't even received my key yet, I just wanted to ensure that when I did use it, that I could use the same key again. In-case my computer blows up or something.

i Don't even see why this is a ? ,we were always able to reinstall windows many times ,with all versions of windows ,sometime you might have had to call HOME[MS] to get it to activate ,

If you did just buy a Key with no media ,when you do get the key you could just use win7 upgrade any time ,or do the full install as suggested above

hope you enjoy win8 pro when you do finally get it
