    CTRL+C and CTRL+V Problems

    Hello,

Running a brand new ASUS windows 8 based desktop. CTRL+C and CTRL+V work only partially, when I am using them many times they don't paste or copy (though they do some of the time) but they make my browser open a window or switch tabs or like make the right click menu pop up. It is so bizarre, I don't know if it's a bug or what, has anyone else experienced this? It is very annoying when I am so used to doing it.

    Hello kjelljs,

FYI, I have not experienced that problem. The ctrl +c and ctrl +v work consistently for me. I guess the best thing is to try (at this point) is another keyboard (if you have one available) and if you are currently using a wireless keyboard, maybe try a wired version. Good luck.

Welcome. Totally bizarre. I would be tempted to contact ASUS or your seller on this one. Honestly, if resolution does not come easy and fast, then I'd return the machine. If you want to try something, then try sfc /scannow to deal with possible corruption (may need to run multiple times--say 3--run at least until no corruption is shown). I honestly doubt that corruption is the problem.

Shortcut keys ctrl+c do not always work on Windows 8.
I have been experiencing the problem on a Dell Inspiron15 laptop running Windows 8.
The annoying thing is that it only happens now and then.
    Sometimes when Ctrl+C doesn't work, rightclick+copy does.
    Sometimes neither works.
Sometimes if I keep trying, one of the two will eventually work. Other times not.
Is this sporadic problem a hardware or software fault?
Dell support told me to delete my User Account, create a new User Account and the problem will go away. It did not.

I dunno, I never have had any problem. Sometimes, you have to select the thing you are copying with your Mouse by holding down left-click while moving across what you are selecting, then right click on the selected items and choose "Copy". That's never failed to copy what I selected. I only use CTRL-C on the Address Bar in IE/Chrome/Explorer, but it's easier just to place the mouse up there and it darkens for selection automatically, then you can CTRL-C or right click/Copy.

I say, go grab a different keyboard and try it with that. Also, if you are using a USB Keyboard, it may not work as well as a PS-2 KB. This is why a lot of people actually prefer PS-2 KBs and why MB makers still put the port there (As well as for Gamers).

Thanks. Sounds like it might work. I've obtained a PS-2 KB. Please tell me how to remove my laptop KB and attach the PS-2.

Thought you were running a PC, sorry, you may have a PS-2 port on the laptop, but probably not- Older laptops have this, rare on new ones. You can try a USB keyboard, without having to uninstall any built in keyboards. On a laptop, it may have a PS-2 port that is half green and half purple, you can plug a KB or a Mouse into this.

Under any previous OS, one could simply highlight text, press CTRL+C to copy it and then press CTRL+V to paste it elsewhere. CTRL+C still functions to copy, but CTRL+V no longer pastes the clipboard data. Instead, they seem to have built in multiple paste options seen if you right click and...

Use either left or right Ctrl key to unlock. Using the spacebar key is documented but since I'd found no mention of the method which I use, then I thought I'd pass it on.
