Can't get reset to work. Says I am missing a partition.

I am trying to run a reset in Windows 8. However, after rebooting into WinRE, it says that it can't reset because I am missing a required partition.

I searched for a solution to this problem. But, it looks like most people who see this error have accidentally deleted some Windows partitions. In my case, I have not altered the Windows partitions since original install.

I read another comment that suggested that it's due to the hd driver being missing and that I would have to "inject" the correct driver into winre. But, I'm not sure how to do that (or if that is really the fix).

Anyone else run into this and find a solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can do a regular re-install. But, then I will end up on hold with Microsoft getting them to activate it. Would rather learn how to make reset work.

Thank you theog. I filled out the System Specs.

This is a custom computer that I put together. I bought a few Windows 8 Pro licenses during the $50 deal and did a clean install with UEFI. Then added Windows Media Center during their free promotion.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

You can run system error check command and try to reset your system
open CMD (run as admininstrator) and type following command
    sfc /scannow

You also mentioned that re activating is quite tedious
if you dont have your w8 key or have lost it you can simply get it through following software
    KeyFinder | Magical Jelly Bean
it will retrieve all software and os key from your registry and then you can simply register to microsoft corporation.

Thank you Abhishek. I ran that command and it shows "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I have my Windows 8 keys. I had to re-install a couple times to get it right with UEFI. So, I've run into "this key has already been used too many times" type of errors when activating. So, I end up having to call in to get them to activate it.

Using reset seems like a much more elegant solution over a clean re-install (especially with UEFI). So, I would really like to get it to work.

Just called Microsoft. Very friendly technician. But, he seemed to know less about this than I do.

I am going to be busy with work starting tomorrow. So, I need to move forward with fixing this today. Looks like I'm going to be doing a clean re-install.

I appreciate your help and am still interested to hear what you would suggest. I may end up in a "reset" situation again and it may help someone else who finds this thread.

    You have two options.

    Option one.
Refresh or Reset Windows 8 without Installation Disk

    Option two.
Use the Windows 8 x64 DVD.

If you want to build your own PC and install Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro, or want an additional operating system running in either a local virtual machine or separate partition (including a Mac), you can purchase the Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro System Builder products (OEM versions). If available in your country or region, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro System Builder products can be purchased at participating stores, you'll need to ask a sales rep for more info. This version doesn't include customer support.

Thank you. Reset without Installation looks like a promising solution. I've book-marked it for future reference.
