My laptop keeps freezing on my Windows 8 start screen

Please, I need some help on this subject.

I turn on my laptop and I get my welcome screen. I type in my password to get to my start screen. But then it freezes. I can't click to access my start screen or any other tabs I have nor can I scoll from left to right. It just freezes. The only thing I can do is press ctrl-alt-del to shut down my laptop. I try again and the same thing happens. I get stuck on my start screen and can't do anything.

It was working just last night and I am using my mothers laptop to come online and find an answer. Please, any help would be appreciated.

How did this turn out? Experiencing the same problem on my girlfriend's laptop. Attempted to run system file check from recovery disc command prompt, but was told that the process could not be started. Refreshed laptop - no change. Haven't had a chance to tinker with it after that failed, but I think I'll give it a shot tonight. If anybody else has experienced this problem, can you please enlighten us? I will report back if I find something that works.

What do you mean by "Freezing" - Is it a totally black screen? If it is a totally black screen but you can still do the 3-fingered ctrl-alt-del salute, it is not frozen, the Activation has probably failed - next time, open a CMD box and type SLMGR.vbs /DLV and check your activation status. You should be able to re-activate right from there.
