Good Morning

This is my first post on the Windows 8 forum though I had great help from Vista forums.

My computer died on me so I have jut got an Acer Aspire XC100 which I am pleased with though admit I'm struggling with Windows 8 so I am reverting back to desktop as much as possible.

My problem yesterday and today is; When I get to Microsoft welcome/ log in page I use the password I created on registration and it's rejected time and time again until eventually it's accepted, this happens with my Windows Live password too. I'm nervous about resetting my password in case I'm locked out altogether so would appreciate some advice please.

Thank you

Poppygran

The only explanation I can give is:
  1. You have a stuck/flaky keyboard
  2. The internet connection must be established before you can log in using Microsoft account.
It is better if you create a local account and use it instead,

It's difficult to learn Windows 8 without help. There is a MASSIVE tutorial section here down at the bottom.

I also advocate going to the book store and buying a good Win 8 book. Life is so much easier. I doubt that anyone wants to send several hours every day on these forums asking questions.

Windows 8 is the most sophisticated and advanced OS devised to date. It has 3,4,5 different ways of doing things. It takes weeks to become familiar and months to really understand everything.

Windows 8 log in does act up. I had similar problems. Be sure to write down your user name and password. Too you can type those in a word processing document then copy and paste to be sure you are using the right letters, numbers, symbols. The names are case sensitive also.

There is a Win 8 provision to make a password disc just in case. It will get you back on if anything untoward happens. There are other discs to make also and there should be made ASAP then stored in a safe place. People do forget !

Win 8 also has a provision to use a 4 number pin. And a picture log in. If you want to dispense with the chore of always logging on you can set an automatic log on that boots you up. IF you are in a situation where no-one else has access to your computer that you don't want.

BTW the recommendation for a password is 8 characters, with combinations to defeat hackers.

After you are booted up, logging into your Microsoft account can be a pain. There seems to be something wrong there. I've had to log in many times too before it "took". So I don't use it for my E-mail. I use Hotmail. Otherwise I really don't need it.

* Be sure to write everything down carefully. I've even had it change my data on it's own and that may have been due to many updates. There were said to be 52 defects in Win 8 that were scheduled to be fixed. I really haven't heard if all updates have now been completed. But you can check on updates and download them any time. By default the updates are normally automatic however.

Download http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/16473-pc-settings-shortcut-windows-8-a.html and put it on your desktop then double click on it. You'll get a screen as shown
