Hot corners not working on my touchscreen... Why?

I have an older HP TouchSmart All-In-One touchscreen desktop computer.
Decided to put Windows 8 on it this week because it's supposed to be cool with touch screens.

Question: Why can't I use the hot corners with my finger? Is there a way to make this touchscreen desktop to work like a Win 8 Tablet? I want to use this computer 100% mouse and keyboard free. Basically, I want it to work like a tablet. For example, it's annoying to have to grab the mouse just to open the start menu... Defeats the purpose of Win 8. I'm seriously about to go back to Win 7.

    Please help! Thank you

the touch gestures don't use the hot corners. the hot corners are for the mouse.

the touch gestures are all about swipes from the edge of the screen.

    a small sample of gestures:
    • swipe from the right side of the screen to the left: show charms bar and start button
    • swipe from the left side of the screen to the right: cycle through your apps
    • swipe from the top edge downward or the bottom edge upward: show the context menu (like right-clicking with a mouse)
    • swipe from left screen edge inward and then back out to show the full list of running apps

    here are some longer explanations:
Master Windows 8 gesture commands | PCWorld
Gestures, manipulations, and interactions (Windows Store apps) (Windows)

It's odd... None of the gestures seem to work. I checked the articles you recommend, and it doesn't say anything about activating gestures. When I go to the Pen and Touch settings, under actions, there are only two options; Double-tap and Press and hold. It seems there should be something for swipe. I'm running Win 8 Pro... Does that make a difference?.. Should I be using a different version of Win 8?

That's for those actions. You just swipe in from the edge of the screen. Doesn't matter if that's there, it's a part of the UI. Is the touchscreen working? Drivers are installed?

You shouldn't even be needing the mouse to being with if your touchscreen is working. If it's working, then the problem could lie in the fact that Windows 7 era touch AIOs had superfluous screen bezels that rise over the edges of the screen, which in Windows 8, presents SERIOUS issues.

Touch screen works, and drivers are all installed. I think you found the problem though... The dang bezel. I never thought that would be an issue. Oh well, guess I'm going back to Win 7. Thanks for your help Coke and dirty.

Solved: Pre-Windows 8 AIO bezel rises over edge of touchscreen. Be aware when upgrading a touchscreen device from an older Windows to Windows 8.

The Lenovo B320 I have has the same problem with swipes, it can't get to the charms or anything along the edges. Win. 8 reported that the screen was not compatible with win 8 and it certainly isn't.

Kind of wondering if the bezel is the problem here as well since it has a deep one.

There are a few workarounds however for the older touchscreens. Depending on your graphics driver, you theoretically can be able to shrink down the size of the screen picture. Basically, add a gap between the edge of the bezel and the display picture.

It generally will be if you can't do edge swipes for sure. I've come across that issue before on elder touch AIO PCs, the stupid bezels just get in the way of a nice experience.

The sad part is this is four months old - Lenovo pushed the win 8 upgrades knowing the touchscreen would not work and still hasn't put out a driver/fix or even responded to complaints on their own forum. This is only one of the many problems that are going unanswered due to no drivers. Evidently they have no driver staff or just aren't interested in developing them for anything that is already out the door and added to their bottom line.

Alright, just messed with the video card settings and could shrink the pic and recalibrated and it is working. Thanks for the tip, several at the Lenovo forum will like this :-)
