Just installed Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

Install went smoothly(I did it before with the consumer preview.) There are some issues however:

    1. .net framework is not installed? I tried to install .net framework 3.5 and it could not be completed because the install has no .net framework. Bit of a catch-22 there. When I tell the OS to find the necessary files it just loads constantly without actually downloading anything. I felt that perhaps it was because there is an update that I need to install.

    2. Installing Windows updates - the progress bar shows that it is beginning the download of the necessary updates, I need 32 of them. It never actually downloads anything. Similar issue as before. It never makes any progress. I am, of course, connected to the internet.

NOTE: immediately after I installed the OS, I installed HP graphics drivers for my switchable graphics under Windows 7 compatibility mode. Seems to have worked. However, during the installation, the screen went black, did not shut off, but this required a hard reset. The install seems to have worked. I can not tell how successful the install of this driver software was because I need .net framework to use the application (ha-ha.) Which brings us back to part 1.

Please help. Not sure where to begin with this issue as it won't install updates.

It sounds like you have a problem with you're internet connection. try disconnecting from you're network, and then reconnect. if that doesn't work, thr reseting you're router by unplugging it and pluging it back in. Hope this helps.

How did you try to install Dot Net 3.5? Go to control panel > Programs and features > Turn Windows features on and off. Then look for a listing for Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1. I'm not on my Windows 8 PC at the moment but my Windows 7 PC has that listing. If its listed you can enable it from there.

Yes, as alphanumeric says. After doing so, you should, or at least probably will, be ask if you want to install more from the web. Say yes.

    Welcome.

IMO, never try to install very many updates all at once--at most do a few at a time. And, why install any you don't need? You might want to switch to Ethernet to install updates. A bad update install is not necessarily a fun thing to deal with.

I've installed a number of computers recently with Windows 8 and it seems that when I run Windows updates it sits at 0% downloading for about 10 minutes or so, and then magically it starts to install them. So, it's like the progress bar simply doesn't move. But then after I get the first round of updates installed, it then works on the following runs. So, I think they must have had an issue right out of the box.

Are you trying to run updates on wireless computers?
Why does anyone force updates? Updates are managed automatically.
Why do people think a wireless connection can provide the same bandwidth as broadband Ethernet?

I have installed Windows 8 maybe 30 times and have never had an issue with Windows updates.
Updates have always occurred during reboot and take about 20 to 30 seconds or less.

Many users think Windows 8 is like Windows 7 and go to Windows Update and select everything because they think they need it.
And then again, users always bosh up their systems with incompatible graphics drivers.
I have never had to wait for a windows update to complete beyond less than 1 minute.

Also, I always install Download .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 from Official Microsoft Download Center with no problem. (required for Windows Live Mail)
How do you know they (who is they?) have an issue out of the box?
    I have had no issues.
