Solved Two quick questions

I ordered a Dell laptop and it's supposed to be here soon.

The laptop has McAfee installed and that will be the first thing to be uninstalled. What do I have to do to enable Defender (MSE) that is included with W8?

I hope to use Macrium Reflect to image the HDD, early and often. Any reports of problems using Macrium?

Thanks for any info... Drew

I think windows 8 will automaticaly enable defender after uninstalling mcafee.

I do use macrium and in my fairly old computer, macrium restore in ahci mode sometimes causes corrupted restore so I use ide mode for restore and then revert back to ahci mode after restore is finished.

might as well use mcAfee until the trial is up ,i would while its free ,its rated a little higher for full protection than Defender ,mind you i don't use it ,i use defender because it free ,

I too would uninstall McAfee. I would use this McAfee tool if it applies to your McAfee installation. You want to get McAfee as completely uninstalled as possible. As said above, Windows Defender (WD) should turn on automatically if no other AV is installed. If you have problems with WD, then look in the notifications area. You could supplement WD with Malwarebytes. I have heard only good things about Macrium--same with Paragon.

@ ecevit - I found a thread here saying Defender would start after removing the existing AV.

@ caperjack - McAfee is only a 30 day trial, might as well dump it!

@ znod - I'll be sure to download and use the uninstall program.

@ whs - Good to see you have made a WinPE .iso of the latest Macrium version, I have been using the previous version you made available on your Skydrive account.

Thanks for the information guys! I'll get on this project as soon as I get Classic Shell installed!
