Annoyance with SENDTO Desktop (create a shortcut)

    Hello,

Background: Windows 8, HP destop, 4 cores Intel

Suddenly few days ago the link for SENDTO DESKTOP evaporated, along with its icon (from imageres: a bluish monitor screen)
So I followed the this procedures both manually and using the ready fix Zip folder provided foer Win7.
By using the unzipped folder I restored the link in the context menu (not its icon however). I was happy: so i started to use the link; noway, I tried to send several files to the desktop, no success. The shortcuts were not delivered: they simply disappeared. To make it short: I found all the shortcuts that I tried to create...in the unzipped FOLDER that I copied in Username\roaming\microsoft\windows\sendto\desktop. I thought than to have made a mistake copying the FOLDER and not the its FILE. I did it and the link even disappeared from the context menu. I think that is the FOLDER to be copied, not the FILE: if you use a file you cannot associate its icon. By using the Folder I was able to display the icon in the context menu.

    Any suggestion? Many thanks.

    Hello geomazo,

You might take a look at the tutorial below to see if it may help for now.

    Hi,

Of course before posting in the Forum, I implemented what is detailed in the article. When I made ref to win 7 I was referring to those specific guidelines, and the same did not work in my case.

    Thank you, anyway.

As a test, create a new user account for yourself to see if Send to -> Desktop works properly while logged in to that account.

If so, you could use that account instead if you like, and just copy any shortcuts and files from your old account over to the new one.

    Thanks again,

I did something similar: I copied the DEFAULT user'r DeskLink file (or Folder?) in my username folder; I dis the same copying the file from the UPDATUS one. No success.

I have to add this: when in usernam\roaming\Microsoft\Windows\ sendto I copy the Folder SENDTO DESKTOP, the link at least appears in the context menu, instead when I copy a File SENDTO DESKTOP I dont even see it in the context menus. In both cases the link does not work.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened may be able to fix this for you.

    Hello again,

By way of completion of the above case, I am pleased to inform that the proven solution was found: just I dragged into the folder of SENDTO the icon of the Desktop that is found in the navigation pane at the left of the monitor. Just that! I am very happy.
Thanks to Brink for his support: I like to share this solution with the Forum.

    That's great news geomazo.

It makes me wonder why the tutorial didn't help you then since it does the same except with a downloaded copy of the "Desktop" shortcut instead.

With the file downloaded from the TUTORIAL I tried at least 10 times, and it did not work, I confirm.
