I a currently running windows 7 (going to upgrade to win8 pro soon) and have a USB IR Remote control that I got with a DVico TV card. I no longer have the card installed, but I am still using the remote (mostly for VLC). I can map any keyboard keys with most of the buttons (using the software) so I can technically use it with any program I guess.
I am not sure if it will work with windows 8, but the actual remote has seen better days and am looking for a replacement.

My question is, does anyone know of any Windows 8 compatible remote controls?
I would want it to be programmable like the one I have. I would LOVE to use it with Netflix. And back-lit keys would be a much welcomed bonus.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi there
slightly different approach but if you have a Smart phone why not use the FREE VLC commander . (Android google play store) or other apps of that type.

Actually also with decent Broadband and TV streaming I don't think you really need a TV card any more either so the phone could control channels etc like a "Classical remote". The other advantage of using the Internet for TV is that you have a LOT MORE channels and services available.

OK not quite the solution you were looking for but IMO it's worth using new techniques and hardware if you can do it easily.

Cheers
