If you make no mistake, Minitool is safe. You may want to take an image of the partition before manipulation - just to be on the safe side.

Can I make an image and then manipulate the image instead!

That can be done too. If you use free Macrium, you can mount the image (double click on the image file). The VHD will show up in Computer from where you can shrink it.

Disk Management won't help because it cannot move the MFT which sits in the upper part of the disk. But Minitool can do it. It moves the MFT.

On the other hand, if you just want to restore a larger partition to a smaller partition, free Macrium does that automatically (as long as the data fits). You need the latest Macrium release for that.

I am at present doing a Windows PE Macrium Reflect disc. It's taking some time as it needs to install WAIK.

You could have downloaded the Macrium WinPE .iso from my Skydrive in 7 minutes.

Goddamn disc wont boot... I decided to use another computer hooked up all parts and I am now Reflecting. Next Minitool compression.

Later on: This is difficult as you don't know if after all this it's gonna work!

I f you are tight for space, you might want to clean out the junk, uninstall programs you don't use and move a few things. There may be a lot in your downloads or pictures or videos etc you don'y use often that you can move.

As a matter of fact I am on a very tight budget here. I decided to put the image on a 60GB SSD instead of the 120GB. There's not allot of breathing space...

Why is Windows 8 so big?

I just checked now and C: says 51GB used and if I go into C: and highlight all the folders and click properties I get 28GB is that strange or what?
