no HDCP is very much an issue with DVI.

you can google about it. much better explanations than I can give. here's a quick one I skimmed (I didn't actually read it yet myself) but I wanted to share it and I can read it later myself and offer my thoughts on the issue:
Welcome Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity

that said, HDCP is not your primary thing to investigate. it's way down on your list of potential problems.

Ok. I finally got round to re-installing Windows 8 as a clean install, the tutorial and information posted on here was awesome, thanks znod, not all of it was new to me but I found it reassuring to follow the steps you posted. Without them I would never have know about the 350mb System partition or using the refresh method for getting the upgrade disk to install as a clean installation.

I am now at that stage where I need to get my OS to store all user created data and other temp files or anything else on my HDD instead of my SSD where ever possible. I found this guide - Move the Users Directory from SSD to HDD in Windows 8 | Prasys' Blog

Would you guys recommend that I follow this? Or is there a better way?

Great; glad I could help. And, you are very welcome. Not sure what the best guide is. If there is one here, then I would use it. I'll search here and get back to you if I find anything. I looked at the guide you linked; it seems well done, but I am not positive about all the ins and outs.

Check this out, and compare the two tutorials: User Profiles - Relocate to another Partition or Disk. I still am looking around.

Cool, thanks. I guess I'm a bit scared of having to rely on DOS commands, they're the sort of things that I end up messing up!

You are welcome. And, search on this phrase in the forums search field: "move user directory." You should find some interesting reads.

The link method seems to be the less frightening way to do it. And yes, asking for the 'best' way to do it was not the 'best' way to ask the question. I guess what I really wanted was the least worrying or the method with the smallest opportunity for disaster to strike!

My daughter (7 months) needs my attention so I'll think it over for a bit and hope to find some time to look through the links I found after searching over the next few days. Thanks again.

I'll try and keep that in mind for future issues I seek help with. Also I'm not 100% certain it has fixed all of my gaming issues, I have only tried Far Cry 3, and this still had issues first time around but then I uninstalled it and tried it again and so far it has played well beyond the point where it was crashing before. Also Dead Space has a new issue with mouse lag, but I think I can fix that by installing the Logitech drivers for my mouse instead of using the generic windows drivers.

Expect an update once I have checked those details. I don't get much time to play on my PC at the moment so the update might be a bit slow in coming.

It has taken me a while to get round to doing this, so much to do and so little time!

The annoying thing is, once I made the time to do it, I didn't need anywhere near as much time as I thought I'd need.

The method I chose was to create a User folder on my Storage drive and then create folders named after all of the folders in my user's User folder.

I right clicked on the folders and selected Location, copied the location details and then clicked on move, pasted the location and changed the C: to an E: then once all of the folders had been moved I simply moved my data into the new User folders.
