Hi there
Can you be more specific -- Acer computers are usually pretty good.

it could be that just ONE problem is causing all the others. Nobody can help you if you don't explain the problem(s).

If you just want to make a tirade against a particular model --fine too but at least SAY what you are finding wrong or horrible with it. A post that just says something like Help my computer has problems" is a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME and probably won't get too many people trying to sort out the problem.

If I were to hazard a guess and you've been trying to install / modify Windows 8 it could be something to do with UEFI and protected BIOS but unless you explain what problems you are having nobody can help.

Yes, Acer computers are usually very good, and I have used only Acers for 6 years, and have 3 Aspire Laptops in use at present. My sole reason for posting was to hear from people who are using this computer, not to ask for help.
I have solved some problems, but cannot manage to install Opera. That have not happened with about 20 other OSes I have tried or used. Firefox installed without problems, so at least I have Google.

Hi there
If Opera is the only problem then that shouldn't be a huge NO against the computer.

I 'm not sure in any case if Opera has a 64 bit version for Windows 8 yet -- I find IE10 on W8 sufficient these days. Opera and other browsers were fine to replace IE9 and earlier but Ms seems to have got it right with IE10.

Opera is great on Linux or Android phones though.

As for problems with Acer aspire laptops -- I've had three laptops and 2 Netbooks -- NO problems whatsoever with ANY of the computers although the netbooks were a bit slow so they aren't used any more -- for casual Internet my phone is far superior for speed.

I still when travelling and want to take a laptop I choose an Acer Aspire 11.5 inch V105 -- I've upped the memory to 8GB and replaced the original HDD with an SSD. It's lighter, smaller and more portable than most and does everything I need than larger laptops and HDMI out to large screens is no problem. It also has the RGB connector too when you need to connect to an external monitor that doesn't have an HDMI slot and outputs at full 1080p HD. It also has a USB 3 slot in addition to two standard USB 2 slots. The USB 3slot is excellent for much faster USB 3 disks and you can use a USB 3 hub if you need more USB 3 devices attached at one time.

I take this laptop any day when travelling over my much more powerful i7 powered 17 inch monster --travelling these days on planes etc --you want MINIMUM luggage with you --if it can't go as "Carry on" then I don't take it --even on long trips like London to LA --I can always buy extra clothing in a store at the destination quite cheaply.

I nearly had to spend a night in the cells at LAX -- US Immigration asked me how long I was staying -- I said about 3 - 4 weeks. The Immigration officer looked at me and said "Where's your luggage". I said I only have this small carry on backpack. She said "Is that all". I retorted -- Last time I was in LA they did actually have a few stores -- what's happened --have they all closed down -- Lesson NEVER try and "Outsmart" Immigration or Customs officials --they have NO humour whatsoever. Anyway that got me about an extra hour in "Secondary Inspection" before I was allowed to leave the airport and go on my way. - If you are travelling from N.Europe to LA in Winter in any case you'd need different clothes on arrival -- even in December it's often around 20 - 25 deg in the LA area but you can't really argue the toss with some of these "Officials" --so lesson learned -- keep big trap shut at US Immigration.

Acer laptops have given me NO problem with XP, W7 or W8. (I did have to "downgrade" an acer laptop to XP for a colleague -- seems a bit of a waste but that's what he wanted. That also worked once I'd got a SATA driver for XP).
