Please bear with me. Windows 8 is new and I previously used windows vista. I downloaded my games to an external drive. When I use external drive I display all games on the drive. I would like to drag 1 game to the desktop to be able to play at leisure. When I click and drag to desktop it copies the game, then when I want to drag game back to external drive it tries to copy again...I would like to pull off external to desktop, then put it back on external when complete. Is it possible ?? Do I have to copy game to desktop ?? thanks ahead of time...not a techie..not even close..

No, just create a shortcut by right click & hold on the game then drag to desktop, release, and a popup menu will display, click on create shortcut.

I tried deleting, but it would delete from my external drive. I need it gone from the desktop..thanks for your patience and help

You should be able to right click the link on your desktop and select "Delete" from the popup menu.

It shouldn't delete the game from your external drive when you do that.

A shortcut is just a pointer to where your real program is so deleting the shortcut will not delete the program. FYI, the shortcut icon looks exactly the same as your program icon except it has a little black arrow on the bottom left corner of the shortcut icon

thank you everyone.....I was able to delete the shortcut and the game remained in my external drive..Logically I told myself I should be able to do that, but I let windows 8 intimidate me.. Convinced myself it would delete everything. Again thanks for patience and quick response..
