it's possible that if the Malware did damage you may have to reinstall IE8, or reimage your system, depends on how bad the damage is, if it did that much damage.

    Try these things first....

Delete all Browsing History, check all boxes except for Preserve Favorites Website Data

Check your Security Settings in IE, make sure there is nothing strange in Trusted sites
and click on Reset all zones to default level

Then Reset Internet Explorer Settings in IE, it will be on the Advanced tab
Check the box, Delete Personal Settings

Get Malwarebytes and run it also...

    Try that first..

But unfortunately, depending on the damage done, it is not always possible to fully recover without doing what is referred to a nuke and reload
Back up all data, format drive and start over.

..Thank you very much for your reply.I would like to mention the fact that I am a "Senior" and a novice to boot.Nonetheless I shall try and implement your suggestions as best I can..Malwarebytes shall be my first go at correcting the situation I created..Truly.. Rob

One thing to try would be a Repair Install of XP after you've cleared the machine of any malware. That would preserve most settings and installed programs, though it's not guaranteed.

Unfortunately, that would require that you have an installation disk for XP that's at the same service pack level as what you have installed. You're unusual if you have that.

If you have an older XP install disk, it's possible to use it to prepare a "slipstreamed" copy with the latest service pack. (As far as I know, XP was the latest desktop operating system that permitted that. Windows 7 allows service packs to be integrated, but it's not the same as a real install disk at the new SP level.) You might need the services of someone a bit more Windows savvy to do that for you, though.

    Good luck.

.Thank you very much for your suggestions as they are much appreciated..I tried the " Windows Fit It " which is a free application and it did help some-what in my Computer operstions but the "Restore Point " and Widows Updates are still files I cannot recover as I am not familar with the proper file titles ??.I shall keep at it and hopefully not create more problems..I thank you very much for your time..Truly Rob..
