The title says it all. I much prefer WMP 11 but I can't seem to fire it up on Windows 8. Can anyone give me any tips?

Given the difficulty and potential danger involved, may I ask why?

Yes indeedy. I've recently acquired a lovely new Acer laptop and despite having player around with VLC, MPC and a host of others, none seem to work quite as well as WMP 12.

So, why not stick with it? Basically, I would like to add subtitles to my movies (srt files) but whilst they work in WMP 11, they don't in WMP 12.

I have tried downloading a range of programs, ffdshow, vobsubs, QL etc but none seem to work on srt files on WMP 12.

Hope that explains the situation.

Does Shark007 work? it works for me, but it can't work in Metro apps. nothing woks in Metro apps, unless they use Microsoft's new (and rarely used) media Foundation codec system.

I'm guessing that downloading and installing WMP 11 won't work then or the 'danger' is too high?

It likely checks what version of Windows is installed and won't install on unsupported versions. Going up a version is usually easy. Normally you can go down but only to the base version that was installed with that version of Windows. You'll likely have to do some trickery to get MP 11 to install. Even then the odds are good that you'll break something in the process and end up with no working MP. I'd image your OS and or make a backup before trying. It sounds like a lot of work and an iffy proposition at best.

Honestly, I don't know if you can. WMP 11 doesn't support Windows 8, and if you did manage to get it working you'd have compatibility issues and maybe even crashes.

Okay thank you. I might try Shark but you never know, Microsoft might actually sort out the issues with WMP 12 so that people don't want to downgrade to a better version. On the other-hand, pigs might fly!

Thank you again

After watching Big bang Theory I learned to try to keep things as simple as possible.
