Pin desktop shortcut to the taskbar

Pin desktop shortcut to the taskbar

I've researched this everywhere I can think of. I'm one of those old folks, so some things are more difficult.
I had absolutely no problems with WIN7 however, and just my opinion, how or who made win8 such a complete disaster for anyone to use

All I want to do is pin a desktop icon to the taskbar. I've gone to every app on this pc, right clicked, left clicked,
middle finger clicked, nose clicked, no luck.

Don't want to over simplify, but wouldn't it be great if one of those computer guru's had thought of this instruction?

"To put a desktop short cut on the task bar, right click on desktop and select pin to taskbar" or
"just drag that huge desktop icon in windows to the taskbar"?

I just got this new desktop pc about a week ago, am still navigating though help, tutorials, google, to try and figure it all out. I haven't even been able to set up a completely functional email, ie click on file, send page or url to mail recipient, both those options are grayed out.
And so on and so on.

Hello Bacsi, and welcome Eight Forums.

You already have a "Show Desktop" button on your taskbar by default for this. You don't see it until you click on it, but it's there.

If you like, you could also use the "Show Desktop" shortcut below that you can pin and use where you like.

The email will require that you have an email client program (ex: Windows Live Mail, Outlook, etc...) installed to work.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Why not just use the one that's already there? It's that blank space on the other side of the clock, they just removed the separator that was present in Windows 7.

The desktop appears automatically in the start screen, why would you want to add another route?

It appears that the OP bacsi just didn't know about the "Show Desktop" button on the far right of the taskbar since it no longer displays until clicked on.

"Show Desktop" can be helpful when you want to quickly clear your desktop by minimizing all windows at once, and then be able restore them all again by clicking on "Show Desktop" again.

Funny you mentioned pinning to taskbar. When I first loaded up W8 Pro with MCE pack, I wanted to pin the MCE app to taskbar. Found out you can't pin the shortcut app to desktop from Metro I had to go to MCE folder and pin it from there. That was the final straw and decided to not deal with Metro at all. To me it's just a waste of time on a non touch PC and I can't get anything done productively. Take Metro IE for instance and you go to open up a .pdf file another app has to open it outside of IE just plain dumb and clunky.

*Get StartisBack and just use W8 desktop and forget Metro period, you will get the feel of W7 and not get lost dealing with a duality monster that just adds to more confusion.

Hate to say it but Windows Blue is going to be just as disastrous, from what I gather MS is not listening to us to corporate or the devs, there will be no start button on 6.3 kernel, and you will still be forced to start screen. All they had to do was put in two stupid switches one for Start and the other for Metro then everybody would be somewhat happy.

I uninstalled Media pack, but can't you just right-click media Center and select "pin to taskbar"?

That's just it you can't, you can only pin to start. When you install MCE it will put a tile in Metro but you can't pin it to taskbar only the start menu. You have to go to MCE folder and pin it from the .exec file. This is just one of several things about Metro that makes me not use it. Hey I love my Lumia 810 and the Metro GUI works great for that but for no touch PC's it's just a waste of time for power users.
