Windows 7 slideshow not working in Windows 8 :(

I've a brand new Asus laptop running (x64) Windows 8 (Ver 6.2.92). As I hated Win 8 when I got it & using it hasn't changed my mind (if anything I hate it even more!!), I've just been switching to Win 7 for anything I'm doing. I can't remember if the desktop slideshow ever worked but it's certainly not done so for quite some time now since I got it at Christmas. I'm well versed in using it (as I use it on my main desktop machine) but on the laptop have found that it sticks on one image (regardless of power plan changes). If I go into the slideshow & make any changes it will change the display image once on saving & then stick again. I also can't change it manually using the Right Click Next desktop background method, so have no choice but to just revert to XP mode of having a single image !

I've hunted around some other posts that have vaguely similar problems but have had no luck working through the various fixes suggested for them (power plan changes, checking domain issues, etc), so hoping someone can have patience in pointing me in another direction perhaps to try something else.

Thanks
BK

Hi Black Kat,

No offence....but it seems that you are in the wrong place with your question. You say that you have switched from Windows 8 to Windows 7 and now you have issues with the background slideshows.

It sounds to me like you have a Windows 7 issue. You might want to post it to the sevenforums ==> Windows 7 Support Forums

Cheers!

Sorry - it's just hugely confusing when you're using Windows 7 within Windows 8 i.e. I've not reverted back to Windows 7 as a fresh installation, but rather switching to it from the Win 8 desktop and as it's technically thus a Windows 8 OS that's why I put the question up in here. However, if you feel I should still go to the 7 forum that's not a prob - I just can't help feeling that the issue is in some way perhaps linked to the Win 8 OS setup? Thanks.

How are you using Windows 7 within Windows 8? Do you use a VMWARE or other virtualization utility? Or do you simply mean the Desktop environment in Windows 8?

If you are using Windows 7 via a virtualization utility it doesn't surprise me that the desktop background won't change. A VM environment has limited capabilities compared to a normal environment.

Can you clarify a little more please?

Apologies - probably my own wrong description - I suppose it's not truely Win 7 - but rather being able to use the old style desktop that Win 7 has i.e. I just use the Desktop tile in Win 8 to access it (what you called the "desktop environment" I think). I've not installed any of the programs used to provide for a Win 7 Start button etc. So technically doing everything from within Win 8 - hopefully that's somewhat clearer?
