Hello all,
I have just started using Windows 8 and like it very much. :D I do have one very small problem.I have dual language, English and Hebrew. When the program initiates the language selection comes up in Hebrew. I would prefer it to initialize in English. I haven't been able to determine if this can be changed. Is there a way to accomplish this?
Thank you

Hi there

It needs a little more work than that -- you also need to set the DISPLAY language so menus etc are translated into your chosen language and ensure what keyboard you are using. - I have for example English base W8 Enterprise with display in Icelandic and select Icelandic keyboard for my input method.

You can get additional Language packs read the link --although W8 can get these directly where required.

How do I get additional language files?

This way the computer logs on in Icelandic and fortunately English doesn't have any particular special symbols so when I'm typing English the Icelandic keyboard is fine.

Unfortunately you won't be able to SWITCH display languages on the fly -- If you need to switch between DISPLAY languages I'd suggest you run a VM with the OS in the 2nd language otherwise you have to change the settings again and re-boot.

For Office you CAN change the display languages but you need to stop and restart office after changing the office settings in Preferences.

For installing Language packs you need at least W8 Pro.

Here's a screenshot of an XP VM I'm using with Icelandic display and Office also with Icelandic. I'm using a tablet at the moment so I can't show you my W8 system(s) but it's the same principle.

Cheers
jimbo

A sincere thank you for those quick replies. I think I have it straightened out now. Seems I got a bit confused along the way. I mark this thread as solved.
Have a super day!
