Here we are ,reading you post and wondering if this just started happening or has it been going on for awhile ,make and model of the laptop ,ect ect

if it getting old ,have you had it cleaned of dust and dirt buildup inside the laptop 's the cooling system fan and heatsinc ,
check fan for spinning and bottom for heat build up

but you didn't answer any of my question , like , how old is the laptop ,make and model ,

make and model are written on the laptops bottom usually ,to see if it hot on the bottom of the laptop just turn it over and using you hand rubb it around the bottom to feel hot or cool to the touch .

and as far as cleaning it for dust ,you might need to take it computer repair shop to have that done

Some addition to the questions Caperjack asked you. Have you recently changes anything about your laptop before you've got the screen freeze the first time?

Like installed some new drivers, some software, dropped your laptop etc. Then this might have to do something with the problem you are having.

Please give us some more detailled information if you expect to be helped.
