Hi was wondering if others experience this. Trying to figure out the cause and if there is a fix.

When I turn on or restart my computer after the teal windows logo with the spinning wheel the screen will flash off quickly then come back on black and then 10 seconds later show the lock screen.

It's kind of annoying to have this delay happening and wondering if it's normal or something that can be fixed.

Hi BFG,

That sounds normal to me. The only variation might be "how long" you pause on the black screen (while your boot is being processed). Now, for some, that black screen might flash for only a few seconds but for others, it could last quite some time. My advice is to do nothing and live with it.

Try seeing if your graphics card's drivers are up to date?

I wouldn't call that behavior normal, as it's really not supposed to do that. But it shouldn't affect the standard operations of the OS otherwise. My iMac with Windows 7 does that too, but only for a second.

Hello FutureDreamz

Are you kidding me? You mean you go directly from the logo to the start screen "without" any temporary flash to a black screen? I need your help then because I have a slight hesitatation (eg a few seconds of black screen) between the Windows logo and seeing the start screen (well, actually I bypass the start screen) and my boot time to desktop is approximately 9-11 seconds. Now, if I can just eliminate that 3 second black-screen pause, then maybe I can get it down to 6 seconds (like some have reported). I'll be watching this thread for your tips. Thanks, in advance for your help!

Sorry I just checked and I was mistaken. I do get a split second flash when rebooting. I usually just hibernate my computer, so I don't notice it. I don't get a flash when waking from hibernation, or maybe it's really really quick.

And that being said, 11 seconds from a cold boot is pretty fast. My computer takes 25 seconds, with 7 seconds just to go through the BIOS.

I couldn't boot that fast without the "fast boot enabled." That boot time only applies to a boot after a full shutdown. Restarts take significantly longer. Thanks for your clarification. Oh, and one other thing, my time to desktop sounds good but its so fast that the startup applications haven't had time to load yet so I sit there and watch them pop-up in the task notification area for about another 20 seconds.

Cheers
