Is THere a Safe Mode in Windows 8

I have question Does Windows 8 have a Safe Mode and were do I find it. the reason I ask this is because I have tried going into Safe Mode in Windows 8 by hitting the F8 key so I could run my virus scanner to see if there are any virus that it may not be finding under normal mode. But when I reboot my computer and try going into safe mode in Windows 8 nothing happens. IS THERE A SAFE MODE?

Another way to do this is as followed and you don't need to edit anything. Next time you reboot, it'll be back to Normal boot:

Win+C->Settings ->Hold down SHIFT key and click on Power->restart
Next, Trouble Shoot->Advanced Options->Startup Settings then click on Restart
PC will reboot with different boot options, Type a number associated with menu item.

    msconfig

You can type msconfig in the Run box & click ok to get the window below with some boot options---

That’s it – when you reboot your machine afterwards, it will start up in Safe Mode.
A noteworthy mention at this point is the fact that with this setting, the system will ALWAYS boot up in Safe Mode. If you want to get back to the normal operation, just launch msconfig again, and uncheck the Safe boot option. The next (and subsequent) restarts will get you back to the normal Windows 8 environment.

Why not run your AntiVirus scanner from the bootable CD?

There is a Safe Mode in Windows 8, accessible like others have said.

The reason why it's not like Windows 7's set up for safe mode is simply because the chances of you needing to go into that mode is like 1 in every 100 boots. Windows 8 was designed for fast and secure booting styles, so that gap between the BIOS POST and Windows' boot isn't too accessible anymore.

But if you get to the point where you can't actually boot into Windows to restart to Safe Mode, just boot up your PC, kill it right before the boot starts, and repeat once or twice. That will send it into the Automatic Repair loop where you should be able to choose the Advanced Boot options after the Automatic Repair says it can't fix the problem.

Get back legacy safe mode access win 8

Run Command prompt as Admin and type (copy/paste the following line):

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
    press enter

F8 will now work as it used to. No need to do all the other stuff.

    to revert:

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

Hello Mary, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yep, that allows you to use F8 for "Advanced Boot Options" in Windows 8, but it also disables the new Windows 8 GUI boot menu.

Perhaps that varies by system, because for me it hasn't.

Nope, it's that way for all Windows 8 systems.

Perhaps you may have changed something else. Could you post a screenshot showing the command prompt after typing bcdedit and pressing Enter?
