Import photos and videos

I am importing photos and videos from CANON VIXIA HF 200 HD camcorder. When I choose "Date Taken" as the sort order for the folder, date is not detected at all. All the files are tagged with date under Dec 26, 1899. I have used the same SD card to import in a windows 7 PC, all the dates are detected correctly. This issue happens only with CANON camcorder. It works fine with a NIKON camera - Dates recognized correctly. Not sure what is wrong. Anyone see this issue ?

Thanks for your help

If it works in Win 7 it works.

If it doesn't work in Win 8 it's Win 8's problem

Typically, and fast becoming notoriously, lots of software won't work in Windows 8 until it is upgraded. I have had such problems repeatedly with numerous devices and websites.

Just for clarification:

Are you connecting the camcorder to the Win8 PC, or are you removing the SD card and using a card reader?

If you're connecting the camera, and using Canon's software, there are versions that are supposed to support Win8.

Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : VIXIA HF R200

(This is from the US site.) Hope this helps.

I am removing the SD card...
I am not using any canon software as I tend to stay away from these kinds of software... I will try this one see what happens...but it is strange it works perfectly on windows 7 but broke in windows 8....

That's unexpected.

I use an external USB3 card reader with my Windows 8 PC, and it required no drivers (other than those that came with Windows).

Does your reader work with any SD cards?

I simply must ask but... is the date and time set correctly on the CANON VIXIA HF 200 HD camcorder?

I'm sure the storage media has no effect on windows ability to read date stamps nor the card reader :)

If possible, try reading the exact same files on another computer running Win7 to rule our OS issues.

Date is set correctly on the camcorder and it works perfectly on windows 7... And if I view the files on the sd card using windows explorer, the dates are correct.. So, I am not sure where this december 1899 date is coming from during import...
