If you have Office 2010 for non-commercial use, it may seem that their Office licensing applies to Office 2013 as well, one license per PC. If said PC dies, so does the license. I find that to be bullocks especially with a Windows 8 PC, if the PC dies, the license dies as well. BUT, if the hard drive dies, a reinstall can be done and the same license as before can be used just fine. Ideally, Microsoft should change things so Office licensing ties into the PC's BIOS license key.

Only OEM boxes have a BIOS license key code in the bios. Home built boxes do not have a license key in the bios.

That's what I'm saying, change a few things with the OEM BIOS systems and things become a tad simpler. Theoretically.

Only the OEM has the utility to change the bios key which is tied to Windows 8. If you want to install MS office and it is tied to the bios key then you would not be able to install it on a box that does not have a bios key.

Office isn't currently tied to the OEM BIOS....

I'll have to recheck this, but I do believe licensing is similar with 2010 and 2013 as in if the license on that PC dies, that's it. It's one license per PC. But, in the meantime, if you're in real urgent need for Office and have a Microsoft account address (MSN, Live, Outlook) you can log into Outlook, go to SkyDrive and make a new Office document from there. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

The licence is a corporate one. As my daughter teaches this and other stuff, she was given a copy for her laptop. She replaced broken laptop but licence refuses to run Office.

I'm assuming it's the correct version of Office?
