    WD icon

Here is the icon resource file if you need it.
    Find it attached.
It is located in -- MpAsDesc.dll
I had to zip it because .ico files cannot be uploaded here.

    Hello PokerNemo,

You might see if using the tutorial below to restore the default icon for Windows Defender in Control Panel may help.

It uses icon #100 in the file below for it's icon.

    %ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\EppManifest.dll,-100

    Hope this helps,

As a test, download and install the 64-bit version of the free program Icon Viewer.

Next, right click on the "C:\Program Files%\Windows Defender\EppManifest.dll" file, and click on Properties.

Click on the Icons tab, and see what it shows for icon #100 like below. This way we'll if there's an issue with it or not.

Find attached the icon from the epp dll in Program Files.
The other one I sent was from x86 Program Files.
    Also in the folder is
    EppManifest.dll.
Consult with Brink about using it to replace yours.

    See a picture-
If you have it fixed by now, ignore all this.

    PokerNemo,

Well, that looks fine. Let's try using the tutorial below to change the default icon for Windows Defender in the Control Panel using the location below, and see if it will display properly afterwards.

    "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe"

    Well, that stinks.

I'm not sure of what else to do that will fix it other than refreshing Windows 8 since you don't have a restore point available. However, it's not really worth doing a refresh over for an icon unless you just wanted to.

It's gotta be the most absurd thing ever encountered in Windows..you figure either a sfc scan would fix it or perhaps the icon cache refresh ? yet neither work i cant drag/drop the file from a working copy of defender that file over either very very strange lol
