Slow SSD boot

Hi,

Just upgraded my gfx card from a nvidia 560 gtx to a nvidia 670, and my PC is taking like 1 minute to boot now, any idea how I can fix this? It used to be like 15 seconds..

Specs:

Windows 8 Pro 64bit
i5 3570K @ 4.4ghz
nvidia 670
8GB RAM 1600mhz
samsung 840 SSD 256gb
seagate barracuda 500gb
650w ocz PSU
Z77 D3H motherboard

Tried:

remove the old gfx drivers last night, using driver sweeper, cleaned the registry etc, but it hanged on post [where you see your motherboards bios logo and what keys to press etc] for the first time with the new card in, downloaded the gfx drivers for it and it still hangs on post after install.

Tried playing a couple of games that are on my SSD and on my HDD and performance is perfect.

Loaded up samsung SSD magician and 'optmized' the ssd and benchmarked, 550 read 250 write speed.

Tried my USB and PS/2 keyboard, doesn't register keys to get into BIOS, so can't flash it.

Tried unplugging all USB devices and still hanging on post, takes a good minute or 2.

Also checked my C:\ drive with the OS on using error checking and it found none.

Not long reinstalled windows 8 either...

Can you turn off fastboot then try to get into BIOS again.

"Tried my USB and PS/2 keyboard, doesn't register keys to get into BIOS, so can't flash it."

See what happens if you turn fast startup off. Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8.

And, go from there. Probably no need to flash BIOS. See this NVIDIA guide for installing/uninstalling drivers. You might want to use it and redo your driver setup.

I turned off my hibernation file when I reinstalled windows 8 so I've never had fast boot on if I read the above guides correctly cause the setting isn't there

Yes, I think you are right. Don't want to cop out, but, if fooling with NVIDIA drivers doesn't help (given card was your only change), then maybe you should talk to NVIDIA (and go to the NVIDIA forums--looking at posts about your specific card under Win8, etc.) and your mobo manufacturer. I have seen several lately--where really nice builds are not working well with Win8 at this time. Sad. :(

OK, I'll have a look, currently asking about this problem on 3 different forums so far haha, its just weird how my system runs flawless within windows but the boot time is a drag, didn't do it with my old card :(

Right, that's the rub. Obviously may be a specific Win8/new card issue--driver issue.

I had 9 windows updates last night so it could even be that, but I can't roll back to a restore point cause it'll have the old gfx drivers so would probably cause more issues.

I've just posted on the nvidia forum as well, if it gets fixed, I'll update this thread

Yes, I'd like to hear how it comes out. Thanks. And, you can undo updates via Control Panel > Windows Updates > View update history. You probably know that though.

Try moving the Sata cable on the motherboard to another port, also if you have another cable try that as well. I'd also pull out all the Sata cables and put them back in to make sure they're well seated.

If you don't want to take the Sata cable off the motherboard and have another spare cable on the board just change the drive to the other cable, or swap whatever else you've got on there.

Hi all,
Thanks for the suggestions I pretty much tried all you said in this thread but I fixed it by flashing by BIOS firmware to the latest and reinstalling Windows.

I did have to put my old GFX card in though to do it all because I tried reinstalling Windows with my new card in but it just got stuck on a black screen with a flashing _

[hope this helps if someone finds this thread by google]
