I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding the dilemma.
Lets go back to the start screen. Type "mo" then click on settings. A whole selection of choices should open. Select the one about two monitors or two screens. In there you can tinker around a lot and change several settings. You may have to reboot to make things work.
Windows 8 does not include the Media center and TV, video, music features as a default. It is now a separate purchase requiring an activation product key. Press Windows logo+W to open the Settings search pane. Type add features and then User Account Control asks you to confirm. Click to buy product on line.
Prior to January 31, 2013, when the special promo ended, it was free. I've heard now from US $13 to US$99 !
WMC is a GB/TB hog. Better check your system requirements capacity. If you are recording TV and video you may need 1- 3 TB!
You'll also need the extra hardware, cables, jacks to hook up your TV and a remote control if desired.
