    Making recovery discs

Have just bought a laptop which is installed with W8.

Can somebody please advise how to go about making some recovery discs. What files need to be downloaded and how many discs do I need.

I am not an IT expert so some basic advise would be appreciated

The link below from Dell can help show you how to create a set of recovery discs.

    Hi Shawn.

    Thanks for the link.

Looks like in the UK you have to contact the Tech Dept, so not sure if they will automatically send them?

Will contact them and see what response I get.

See my sig. In the interim, you could make a system image backup and a system repair disc.

    Thanks for the reply.

If I download and make a set of System Recovery Discs do I also need to make system image backup and a system repair disc as well?

You are very welcome. You would need a system image backup(s) only if you want to be able to restore a "snapshot(s)" of your disk from a particular point(s) in time--which actually is a very good thing to be able to do--since you can have images from different points in time when your system is running well. Having a system repair disc can be handy, but not as important as having disk images from different points in time. It still wouldn't hurt to have one.

    Hi Shawn

Got some discs today to set about creating the backup discs.

However, trying to follow: Creating Your System Recovery Discs with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 | Dell I get stuck straight away as this relates to W7. Whilst I am sure it is the same I can't find so at this stage I do not know how to find 'All Programs' let alone Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0. Can you please advise?

    Hello Rudge,

    No worries.

You should be able to do a search for "Dell Backup" to find it to run using OPTION ONE in the tutorial below.

In addition, I found this at Dell that can help more with this.

Hi there. Some of you still use DVD re-writable Discs - and although they are reasonably cheap it's annoying if you want to use one and you've run out. I still make the odd DVD from MP4/MKV blu ray rips for my folks who just want to play movies on a "stand alone" domestic DVD player. Some...
