do i need a sever vrsion of windows to have domain?

Yes to the original poster.

You need a server version of Windows to create an active directory domain to join. Then you need at least 8 pro or enterprise to join that domain.

Correct, you cannot create a domain using Windows 8, or 7 or Vista or XP, or 2000 Workstation. These are the desktop clients. You have to use the server based products to create a domain.
