I need to RANT!

Windows 8 would be good if the OS was split, keep pad OS's away from desktops and laptops. I have a pad and laptop with win8, it drives me insane changing between the two, I don't know how I haven't smashed one of these devices. Bill if your reading this " you need to wake up and smell the coffee!" What were you thinking?

Bill Gates is no longer responsible for anything that comes out of Microsoft. Direct your ire at Steve Balmer.

It would appear that it is you who need to wake up. Bill Gates does not run Microsoft anymore. He just drops my now and then to pick up his dividend checks, and say hi.

Then don't use Windows 8 on your laptop, LOL.
Bill Gates has retired from Microsoft long ago.

BTW what aspect do you hate from W8?

Sorry Bill G, now Steve Balmer.....

I'm testing a Dell pad with windows 8 as well as a Dell Inspiron. going between the two.. closing apps on the pad. pull the app to the bottom of the screen what is that all about. You cant do that on the laptop. The amount of screens just to find control panel, oh yeah then I can pin it somewhere to make it easier. All I want to do is change the IP addresse on the network card..

Maybe I'm just being anal,

This OS is great for the person who justs wants to be on facebook. Oh looks like most of the world. I'm screwed...

I agree that Metro should be optional, and they need to bring the start menu back, that's a necessity. First thing I did when I installed Windows 8 was remove Metro and add back the start menu.

On tablets, Metro is fine, on Desktops/laptops where you need to be productive, it's a huge hindrance.

By pad, do you mean tablet? Saying pad makes me think of a feminine hygiene product, then an ipad...

When you close apps with touch, you drag them down to close them. With the mouse, you move the pointer to the top, click and drag down. This action isn't really any different from taking a window on the Desktop and snapping to the left or right. SAME action.

Also, getting into the Control Panel is done in SO many ways. One of the many ways, at least the new one, is going to the Desktop (assuming you're already there if you need the Control Panel) and then opening the Charms bar, hit Settings, and Control Panel is right there.

This idea that Windows 8 is for people that use facebook or twitter all day is idiotic. Where did this even come from?

So...what's the difference? What makes using the new UI with touch different than with a mouse? I've done both and both are productive as the other.

yeah, older trackpads aren't good for the Windows 8 gestures. trackpads have always been low quality until Apple released their recent ones. It took Apple to snap manufacturers out of chasing the bottom line. Now Windows manufacturers are having to catch up fast because of Windows 8.

to find the control panel fast? <Windows key> + <X> or right-click on the left corner of your screen. faster than it ever has in any Windows OS to get to the Control Panel. You can still pin the Control Panel to the desktop as well, just like before.

it's got the same networking as before. you have easy access in the System Tray, just like before. and you can pin it to your desktop, just like before.

Does Robot really not understand, or simply doesn't want to understand? He may like a particular brand of beer (or maybe lubricant), but not everyone else does. So does he reply that he's tried them all, they are all the same, therefore his brand is just as good? Everyone is an individual, as long as they agree with Robot.

Robot, What i was trying to say is, when you've been using windows 8 on a laptop with a mouse, then going to a tablet with windows 8 takes an extra bit of learning. ie closing apps on laptop move mouse to top left, find app, left click close. you can't do that on the tablet. I understand that they're two different devices, I feel the need to be to seperate OS's.
Cheers

I was trying to explain to the OP for gestures on a touch screen.
The OP said that he was forced to relearn to use Windows 8 after using mouse + keyboard to a touchscreen.

I have no idea what so ever as to what you are complaining about. But if you are willing to give explicit details, I am willing to listen.

Windows 8 is an absolutely phenomenal , scientific, biological advancement in human ingenuity and development. For the first time it has melded the attributes of Homo sapiens expertise in using tools with a combination of exploiting the dialectric aspect of the human finger/touch which can be detected by an ingenious invention of a touch screen that is built with multiple layers of cross wires, horizontal, vertical, capable of translating the touch to a cursor movement to sends commands to an absolutely other ingenious invention to perform mind boggling results.

A lot of people confuse the dislike of the way that the MPI (Mobile Phone Interface) works, with an inability to be able to use it. There is a world of difference between the two. Most people catch on very quickly and just as quickly begin to dislike it and ask why is it so. Some love the MPI, others hate it, especially for its inflexibility. You are locked into a 'window', you no longer have 'windows', as a reviewer once stated 'It should be called Window 8.'.

I have no use for the MPI or its associated apps. I can use it I understand it completely and I maintain it has no place on a real PC and should not have been foisted upon us. Fortunately thanks to the ingenuity of other individuals it can be almost completely removed and hidden. Microsoft should have given that option.

He is a chairman but he doesn't have an active involvement in Microsoft only when Ballmer calls on him to make certain decisions, like killing the Courier tablet project.

Bill Gates is eradicating polio and malaria and has no use for money at this point, other than for charity work.
