Solved windows old folder

I just found this folder named "windows.old on my C drive. Is this safe to delete.

Thanks WHS...I found brinks tutorial and used step 1. I tried step 2 with elevated cmd prompt but that didn't work for some reason. So far no ill effects.

As an alternative to what whs suggested, see if there is anything different in this tutorial: Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 8 (could be what you called Brink's tutorial). Also, you can try taking ownership of the folder and then deleting it. Actually, now that I read more carefully maybe you were successful in deleting it. Anyway, there should be no ill effects from deleting Windows.old unless you failed to get something from it you need.

Get a little app called "Take Ownership (Google can help)." Then use Take Owner to get control of the Old Window's file then delete it. Sometimes you will find some of the files hard to delete, albeit keep the faith and you will get it all deleted (it worked for me even though some of the files had to be done individually).

I'm aware that the thread is solved but, for interest, Bassfisher, when you followed the instructions in the tutorial, did you remember to mark the system files for deletion? The first link you received, unfortunately links to a second tutorial, which, although it mentions the above, does not emphasise it. Znod's first link is the up to date version. Option one has always worked for me, and I have never found the need to "take ownership"
