I bought my brother a laptop for Christmas (HP Pavilion G6x). He couldn't pick it up from me until a week ago. It came with Windows 7, but he was super excited about Windows 8, so I used one of my upgrades for him. Yesterday after a week of light use, he said he turned it on and he gets a black screen with a blinking underscore. There was a screen before it saying to hit escape for options, but escape launches the Windows 7 recovery that I apparently forgot to wipe before installing Windows 8. My assumption is I screwed something up while upgrading, but I'm not sure what. Additionally, I had no time to create recovery media for him before he picked it up. A) Any clue what I could have done wrong while upgrading so this doesn't happen again once the problem is fixed. B) Is there a way to create recovery media for his computer, say, on a different computer that runs Windows 7?
Thanks for your help.
