Documenting my new PC (re)build... From Q6600 to i7-3770k

Tony, The "regatta season" is over and our daughter was awarded "most valuable rower" on her team, so we're very proud of her. She graduated from HS in June and she's starting college in a month at a local community college on a two year full academic scholarship. We had her grad party, went tent camping together, and just generally enjoying our summer. I'm still playing with computers and I've built many systems in the oast few months for family, friends and people at church.

I'll post more as I get time, but during the summer, I'm usually outside and away from the PC... I hope you're enjoying your summer!!

Hello, Art. Good to hear from you!

Congratulations to your daughter. She sounds like a real go-getter!

I love summer and having a fantastic one. Thanks for the concern!

Here's my main PC from a few weeks ago...

I was adding a RAID card to my main PC and it was a nice day, so I moved it out to the patio and did my work out there... Cleaned out the dust, too... The wiring looks worse than it really is because the side panel is off. Most of the cables are hidden behind the motherboard tray. The video card looks smaller and it's really a large card, but the case is huge, so it really dwarfs it.

Thanks! It looks a lot cleaner "in person" because the back panel is off in the picture, so you can see all those cables behind the scenes... Air flows unimpeded through the case, which keeps everything cooler.

    My latest updates...

I just added a 2nd GTX-660 SC video card in SLI for the heck of it. These are the latest pics from last Friday's maintenance work. It's running great! I'll spend a little more time this weekend cleaning up the cables and making things look neater. The PC is overclocked to 4.5GHz and has been for about a year and it's both fast and stable, which is what I wanted.

    Rover,

Thanks! I want to dress up the cables a little better but I may be getting a new case (Air 540 from Corsair), so I don't want to go to the trouble, then rip it all out and start over in a new case. My speakers blew the other day, so I may have to spend the $ that I was going to use to buy the new case to replace my speakers. I was using 10 year old Monsoon Planar 14 speakers that I love, but they are no longer manufactured, so I have to figure out what to replace them with.

I listen to a lot of music on my PC as well as play World of Tanks and SimCity, so I need speakers that can do both of these things well...

I don't know your budget. For all I know, you could be looking to spend $500, a grand or more, but these are good for the price.

Throw on a sub-woofer too for when you feel like getting extra funky, and you'd really be in business.

I've been looking at the Bose Companions for $250 or the Corsair speakers w subwoofer for $300. I need to go to the local MicroCenter and hear them myself. Thanks for the recommendations!! I'll check Sweetwater, too, as that's where our church bands buys gear and their prices are excellent!
