Documenting my new PC (re)build... From Q6600 to i7-3770k

This PM, I'll reinstall all drivers from a DVD that I've burned, then install all ASUS utilities (or try to). I'll double-check the USB headers at the motherboard because I could have knocked them loose when moving the power cables around...

Well, I got everything working! The drivers were re-installed and I downloaded the ASUS software from another version of the board I'm working on and the drivers all worked! The CPU is at 88 degrees (rest) and 110 at 100% load, so I'm very happy with that as it's 20 degrees cooler than the Noctua cooler was able to do!

    Good to hear that.
Seems the problem was easy for you to solve.

Thanks, guys! Sometimes, I just have to take a break and get back to the problem when my brain cells recover. I'm planning to build 2 more PC's right now, so I'm gathering requirements and planning the builds. One of them is for our video production guy at church and one is for one of our bass players, who's also a PC gamer. These guys have very specific requirements, which helps me build them exactly what they need. I'll base the builds on the ASUS P8Z77-V-LK, the i5-3550 or i7-3770, 16GB of DDR3, GTX-660 EVGA SC edition, 128GB SSD, 2TB Data drive, Win7, etc... I load their programs, move their data from the old PC's and (usually) put the older hard drive in an external enclosure so they can use it as a backup. I need to find some good cases and power supplies.

I'm glad everything worked out for you, Art. Just to affirm, it was the drivers then?

Good luck on your next builds.

Tony, yep, it was the drivers. I didn't load the OS on this PC, so I don't know how it was done. I have a very specific way of installing the OS and then drivers, patches, etc... to avoid these little issues that tend to crop up and drive you crazy!

Great to hear you've got everything working!!!

Why install Windows 7 on that gamers machine? Windows 8 is great for gaming!!! I'm using it here and my games work superb. Besides that, the marketshare of Windows 8 on Steam is way way way higher that the worldwide Windows 8 marketshare. Makes you conclude that Windows 8 isn't a crappy OS for games, perhaps even a better OS .
