No, it already has the maximum amount of memory installed. A whopping 1 Gb. But for XP that works just fine. Thank you very much for your kind offer!!!

Hi Art, why aren't you using a i5 processor in the build for your son? It seems that the i3 is so 'weak' considering the other hardware components. There are great i5's around these days for a very nice price.

The basic specs are entirely the same between i3 and i5 families:
-taking two "brother" CPU's one is i3 other is i5, they both have HT, 4 logical processors, same cache sizes only different stock frequencies (i3 usually lower). If both are overclockable, the i3 can become a i5.

You can give it a try first with the i3, then later you can always stick something else inside, with the same socket, of course.

I'm on a tight budget and this build is just an excuse to give him the GTX-660 superclocked video card. The CPU will get upgraded to an i7-3770 on his birthday (December) and I'll reuse the i3-3220 in something else. I got the CPU for $100 and it will be better than what he currently has (Q6600) but the real benefit to him will be the 16GB of RAM, the SSD and the video card. I'm also giving him 2 monitors for the new vdeo card. He and his girlfriend are coming over for dinner tonight and he'sd bringing his PC. He'll pick up the new one tomorrow and I'll post pics along the way tonight...

Our son's new PC... Finished the build...Pt 1

    pt 1...

Well, I was up until 2am last night, finishing our son's PC and I have to tell you, I'm very impressed with the ASUS P8Z77-V-LK board. The RipJaws RAM and i3-3220 are all running well and the WEI for Win7 is 7.3 with the GTX-660 SC video card at 7.9. I think Daniel will like his new PC! The case will be replaced with a decent one near Christmas when I upgrade his CPU...for now, all is well!

BTW, I couldn't upload these pics using IE10 for Win7... Typical, really...
