refreshing windows 8

i have been trying to refresh windows 8 due to some minor problems but without luck,it sticks at 5% and if i remove the disk it says after rebooting that refreshing did not work, any suggestions please

How long did you leave it at 5%?

I just did a refresh yesterday, and it did hang on 5% for a while (maybe 10-15 minutes), so be patient.
