    help needed for computer illiterate

I am seriously struggling with windows eight. I don't use computers often, about 1 hr a day to browse net. don't understand any of the lingo.
I would like to plan my kitchen layout on here and have tried numerous websites but none of them work. They either do nothing, show a blank screen, tell me to download flash player (which I have) or shows a blank box with cross in the corner. It never tells me what I am missing or any other info. Sometimes pictures, games or videos won't load but again no info is given.
Can anyone help with as little computer speak as possible please.

I have been fitting kitchens since 1978. Eightforums.com is unlikely to be a useful forum for your requirements. Try DIY - Home Improvement - Do It Yourself good luck!

Which browser are you using - the desktop one or the modern (Metro) version? They are separate applications.

If it's the desktop one, you can turn on Compatibility View. (Right click near the top of the browser window. Click to turn on the Menu Bar. Compatibility View is under Tools.)

I have no idea how to access that for the Metro application.

As regards Flash, Microsoft changed how that is installed in Win8. Its somehow integrated with Internet Explorer, and isn't updated from the Adobe web site any more, but rather through Windows Update. (Apparently for security.)

Thanks Bob, not sure if I have Metro or not but went into desktop and found tools and now it works. I have lost my desktop picyure though

fafhrd, I am a joiner/carpenter and I am capable of fitting my kitchen, all I wanted was the means to plan the layout without cutting out bits of paper etc.

Sorry I never tried the other things but I suspect I'll be needing them in the near future.
