Folder View always goes back to details.

I hope Im in the right place and I did look around to see if I could find an answer to my questions. Anyway I made the mistake of buying windows 8 assuming it was just windows 7 fixed up, wow was I ever wrong  The problem I am trying to solve at this moment is I set my folders to show medium icon view and no matter what it always reverts back to details (default view) I have reset all folders and applied to all folders but it changes back. The same thing happens for example..... I like to see file extensions but it changes by itself ,it is strange that sometime it will keep my changes for a time but it will always go back to default. I have also gone back to the factory setting 3 times thinking I did something wrong cuz one time I couldn't get the preview pane (pain) or the navigation pane to remove. The only thing Im using at the moment that didn't come with the system is the Classic Shell Win8. My OS is windows 8 X64 so if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would appreciate very much to hear them, Im not a PRO but have been using since the old DOS days and have a fair idea how this is suppose to work, and I have always tweaked the system I was running at work or home but this OS doesn't wanna cooperate at all. Sorry if I was to long winded but was trying to give an account of my problems. Thanks in advance.

Hello Miklo,

If you have not already, you might see if using the method in the tutorial below to set a default folder view for all folders and templates may help.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9753-folder-view-set-default-all-folders-windows-8-a.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn
Yes Shawn I tried that and it didn't make any difference but thanks I appreciate your help.'Im really curious to see if it can be fixed,I suppose its not really a major issue but I have always set my OS up the way I wanted and if I have this problem what else is in trouble if anything.Oh well lol

Did you do an upgrade install? Try running sfc /scannow (option 2)--maybe up to 3 times if you find corruption.

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear enough...... I have gone back to factory default 3 times. This is a new computer less than 60 days old and its running Windows 8 X64. Dell Inspiron 660 with 6 GB Ram, Processor is CPU @ 3.40 GHz and I have run SFC scannow and it found no problems. Thanks for your suggestions and Im really curious if this is a common problem or just me. I know...... I know some ppl are gonna say why did you buy a @#$%^ DELL, my answer is that I don't wanna build a computer and I have used for many years and except for the times I get sent to India for tech support(which I rarely use) I have been happy. I got pricing from the company I retired from and that helps a lot. Once upon a time I had a very similar problem with XP but was able to fix using Kelly's Korner.

And a few tweaks of my own.
Thanks
MIKLO

I see, and you are very welcome. I'd try to return the PC to Dell or at least have Dell fix it under warranty.

Miklo,

Do you have this issue right after doing a factory restore?

If not, then it's most likely being caused by something (ex: program, Windows Update, etc....) you installed afterwards. Create a restore point before installing anything. This way if your folder views start resetting again, you could just do a system restore to undo the cause.

Yes the problem occurs after factory reset and before I start doing any tweaking or downloads,I have thought about getting it back to Dell but I know B4 this happens Im gonna have to deal with some "TECH" telling me to do lame stuff he is reading from a script on his desk and I just don't have the patience for that but I suppose its gonna have to happen if I wanna resolve my problem :( jeez.......Oh well I was interested to get others ideas and opinions here and I did, I was just hoping maybe it was an easy fix I didn't consider, but the good news is I found this site and everyone was very cool 2me and had good and valid suggestions to try and that's a big plus in my book so thanks guys. Im close but haven't given up yet :geek: :what: lol I can be a lil stubborn at times, its just I always think its just a machine and Im smarter than it.....:haha: well at least I think so. Many thanks again.
