I can't boot my computer anymore after upgrade.

    Hello,
I just upgraded my desktop to Windows 8 from Windows 7 using digital download. Everything was running smoothly as I was installing apps and drivers. My graphics driver required a reset after installing, and now when I try to boot up my computer, after the bios and initial windows logo happen, the screen goes dark and the computer stalls. After a while it'll give me 4 beeps. I tried the automatic repair, which seems to be the only thing I can do since I can't boot to the start menu, but the result is the same. I used digital so I have no media to boot from, is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hi, start in safe mode then locate the driver installation file for your video card and run it again, this should fix it.

    Thanks for the response,
Yes it's the graphics driver that was messing things up. Reinstalling it via CD returns the computer to the unbootable state, however as of now, without the driver, my screen is plagued with verticle 'scanlines'.
Specifically, I uninstalled the drivers through device manager in safe mode (both geforce video and audio drivers), then when booted in normal mode I uninstalled the drivers through the control panel. The 'lines' were there throughout. As of right now, using device manager windows will tell me that my audio/video drivers are up to date, I'm hesitant to install video drivers in case my computer becomes unbootable again.

Try just using the new driver from nvidias website. Mfr drivers are not up to date most of the time.

I haven't found a nVidia driver that works. Use the Microsoft one that is installed by default and make sure it doesn't auto update.

I installed the updated drivers from nvidia site, and my computer returns to its unbootable state. Although this time, I can hear the computer working after the initial windows symbol, although the result is the same, with only 1 beep instead of 4. Now I can't even boot it into the automatic repair (and into safe mode from that). As I was writing this my windows just booted up normally after several restarts and attempts to access safe mode, perfectly normal. Would anybody happen to know exactly why I'm having so much trouble with my graphics driver? I'll probably bring this problem over to the nvidia forums later, but just asking in case anybody here could inform me.
