Hi

I am using windows 8 on a Asus touch screen.

When i hover my cursor over the top left corner, nothing happens. When I click windows + period, i get a split screen with my open windows displayed vertically on the right hand side and a blank screen covering the middle and left. But nothing will move to the blank screen. I can't for the life of me figure out how to use this split screen which is the main way I work.
My screen resolution is above 1366.

Help?

Yesterday I was able to drag my mouse down+left from the top of the screen and get a split screen. Today it doesn't work, it only makes a selection rectangle. I am getting pretty tired of Windows 8 and all it's bugs.

Pressing Win+. and Win+LeftArrow still works - it splits the screen.

I am sorry I can't help with your problem.

Thank you for the link. I knew this already though; I wouldn't post here before researhing the subject.

Status:

Today when I boot my machine, splitting the screen with the mouse works, yesterday it didn't work (but keyboard shortcuts did), the day before that it worked. So something is "going on". Note that I am a desktop user, on a stationary PC. It would be nice if the operating system worked the same way every time I boot my machine.

I am very surprised about all the quirks/bugs windows 8 has, I just installed windows 8.1 three weeks ago, and have encountered these bugs:

1) Two windows managers at the same time.
I want one windows manager at a time. Desktop for my stationary PC and Metro for my tablet. Not both at the same time.

2) Missing keyboard shortcuts.
Let's take an example, but this problem is all over windows 8. Assume i want to change the File Explorer's view settings. In the previous version of windows I could press "ALT-v d" to select detailed view, and I could do this without knowing the keyboard shortcut in advance, because the menu systems showed the user the available options. In windows 8 you can't even do this. I know there are other ways of doing the specified example (ctrl-shift-6), but that is not my point.

3) The 30% or more cpu usage which many users experience (due to the file broker cache bug)
Can be fixed manually by clearing the cache, but normal users don't even check the cpu usage. The bug seemed to be introduced with an update in january (new driver, new windows update, who knows), and microsoft still haven't released a fix.

4) Random behavior
As described here. I also have a game, sometimes it wont run and displays a dialogue box like "You must update your operating system to win98, win2000 or newer" and sometimes when i boot, it runs fine.

Sorry for the rants. I was never anti windows, but is becoming very irritated at windows 8.

good luck with that ,to many variables ,one software operating system ,running many ,many different pieces of software that we let take control of different parts of the OS.then throw in a bunch of different hardware with software drivers and you got a computer that does what it wants ,not what you want ,every time I say mine doesn't do that ,to someone on this forum ,it starts doing it !lol

good luck with that

Yeah. I didn't wanna come across as too anti-windowish, but my unix always works as I expect it to work :) I was never anti windows, but windows 8 is turning me into a windows hater. I am planning to switch to unix (bsd) or linux and install wine (and I hope I wont need to use wine).

I can see no reply to this. Did you get one? If so, where can I read it?
