I've got some dvd's that have multiple titles on one disk. On Windows Media Player on win 7 I used to be able to get to a list that showed the Titles on the disk, and let me select the one I wanted. How is this done in Windows Media Center? Thanks

Not sure if you realise that Media Player is still there on Windows 8, just go to the start screen and type in media player, settings, then set it up.

If they're retail disks they should have a menu so you can just choose what you want. If you burnt them yourself, you should have burnt them with a menu. Music can be picked from a track list.

Media Player in Win 8 does not play dvd-video as far as I know. And they are not retail disks, they were burned for me a couple of years ago.

Are you telling us that you can play the DVD in Windows Media Player but not Media Center?

Because you want have MCE if you have not upgraded to it, and if you have, then Media Player will have the ability to play DVD's because that's part of the MCE upgrade.

Judging by the title of this thread, you have Media Center, which means both MCE and MP have the ability to decode MPEG2 thus DVD's.

So... Can you play the disks in media player at all on your current version of windows? If not, try VLC so we know that the disks even work at all on your current OS regardless of it's ability to play DVD's. If it doesn't work on VLC, then it's not a Windows problem is it?... or is it?

I can play the disks in Media Center, but can't select the title that I want. Just plays them in order.

When I start Media Player and click on the disk, MP says "The disk is empty"

Like John said install VLC as well, but when you want to play the titles, instead of doing it through VLC, use Windows Explorer to access the disk and see if you can see the titles, if you can then use either VLC or Media Player to play the files, sounds like a funny disk to me.

I tried a commercial dvd, same result. Plays in WMC, but WMP says "disk is empty". Regarding VLC, I try to avoid 3rd party software whenever I can. I'd like to exhaust all possibilities with the MS options first. I'm trying to find out if there is a problem with my installation, or if WMP in Win 8 is just not capable of playing DVD-Video.
