Yeah, but that bootcamp environment may be very different - plus you start with a 32bit Windows. Your Mountain Lion must be a 64bit system. Even Apple cannot beat mathematics.

Except for the "hardware reserved" issue, you would expect to see 3+ to < 4 GB available under 32 bit. I think that you could turn things around by running 64 bit, but I am not positive. The problem you are noting has been around for a while one way or another, but I couldn't find much on it. Check this thread out. Note that the hatter knows his business when it comes to Boot Camp, etc. His post seems a bit jumbled though. But, I think he is getting at the idea that 64-bit will work although there may be problems with installing when booting via DVD. Note that I have not previously seen your problem on a new MacBook Pro with a hybrid drive. That's what you have, right? Don't think the drive would have anything to do with the issue though. The link certainly does not point to a drive issue. But, you might need to do a driver(s) update. Note that the problem appears to have existed as far back as Vista. I am not having such a problem with Win7 and installed from DVD.

So it was a problem of address space, not used RAM. Glad it works now.

Then why is only 2.16GB available instead of 3.2? I have a Radeon HD 6770M video adapter with 1GB of dedicated ram.
Your Mac may use up to 1GB of RAM for video purposes.

    Why only 2.16?
Because a Mac wasn't designed to be running 32bit Windows as a primary OS that's why. Hardware gets reserved in the memory address space and the size depends from computer to computer.

I'm sure Mac OS is 64bit and that you'll need 64bit Windows also. That way the problem is out of the way.

The real problem is that the maximum of 4 or 3.1 GB you get on 32 bit depends on the hardware.
If there is a case where more RAM space gets reserved (like here on Mac) then even less memory will be available for usage.

The fix is to use a 64bit Windows in case the 2.16GB is not enough for you.

EDIT: I see you switched to x64. Good.
The 2.16GB was normal for 32bit, no hardware problems whatsoever.

    Cheers
