    Hi

    Thanks for your response,

    Yes I agree the logs are a lot cleaner to read now I am using My Event Viewer to upload them.

    The ready boost errors seems to have gone but the system is still reporting that the driver failed to load for the Cruzer device, the only thing I can think of is that the Cruzer device may not be fully compatible with Windows 8? Also is there anything I can do about the ESENT error that is attached below?

    Thanks for your help in troubleshooting these errors.

    As you said, sometimes your system seems to freeze, this might be your hard disks having problems.

    Open Elevated command prompt and run: Chkdsk /f /r on all the hard disks. Also backup data on your Sand disk then reformat it.

    Hi

    Thanks for your response, I have done this and all drive are passing fine with no errors. One other problem have noticed is that if I run SFC it will report that corrupted files have ben found and that it will repair these on the next reboot however, as soon as I run SFC again it reports that the same corrupt files have been found. I have taken a look at the log file that it created but its extremely long, is there anyway I can upload that so that its easier to read through?

    Thanks,

    That's good you ran sfc because that's what I was gonna suggest next. The reason it cannot repair the corrupted file because It might be locked by some of the process currently running. Why don't you boot your PC up in safe mode.
    Run->Msconfig, click on Boot tab and check on Safe Boot. Reboot Windows and run sfc again, and sometimes you need to run sfc multiple times for it to repair.

    Hi
    Thanks for your response,

    I have run SFC in safe mode and it reports that it found problems and will repair upon rebooting, if I run it again in safe mode it says that all is okay however, as soon as I run it again in Windows it reports that corrupted files have again been found. Do you have any ideas about what I should be looking for in the CBS look that SFC created?

    sfc recorded all the system files being checked. Look closely for lines that are unusual compared to the rest, it might give you some glue of what file is corrupted or fixed.

    When you ran Chkdsk, what option did you use ???

    I have just taken a look at the CBS file and copied the entire contents in to Word and its showing that the log is a total of 5505 pages long. One other thing I noticed was that when I booted up from the installation disk and selected repair computer / start-up issues it stated that was unable to repair the system volume. Is there anything else that I can try that is similar to SFC? Or should I attempt to install the OS again but this time selecting the upgrade option so that the OS files would be repaired without loosing any data / settings etc?

    Lots of things left to try.

    Unfortunately the symptoms described are so numerous that several hardware as well as software issues could be the culprit(s).

    Anywhere from overheating to power problems, to component problems, memory, lack of adequate memory, corroded memory card contacts and some more.

    Software issues range from some virus embedded to incompatibility for file corruption and a few more issues, too, including too much and too many files on the system.

    If I didn't miss something one troubling aspect is that of trying various approaches with corrupted files that didn't seem to get fixed. Early on in the posts two error messages were mentioned. The 1005 is fixed by a Norton download. The 1000 is a little bit more generic.

    I have noticed numerous posts wherein new buyers of Windows 8 downloads from Microsoft have experienced several problems. Too even I had some problems with one of my older computers that I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 with a store bought Win 8 Pro. I found that in several instances I had to either update some aspect or download drivers. This ranged from the router to network adapters to printer and some more issues.

    Windows 8 is very sensitive and cantankerous. I found also 5 issues of things in Win 8 that just do not work like they are supposed to that I am still working on. Win 8 is very fussy and particular. The 64 bit CPU acts standoffish with anything 32 bit. There is some incompatibility.

    Win 8 has Win defender and Win firewall. These may be the best FREE protection but even Microsoft admits that they are not the best in the marketplace by any means, Things can slip through and do.

    Among the many, those that stand out to me are:

    * corrupted files not fixed.

    * Possible virus.

    * Memory.

    Both my son and I have had computers so loaded up with undesirables, including suspected viruses and Trojans that the professionals felt it was faster and easier to just wipe the hard drive and reinstall, instead of spending endless hours trying a whole laundry list of remedies.

    Crashes cost me a bundle of money when all was said and done. I finally hired a professional firm to do the fix. They took over the computer remotely and spent over 45 minutes. But they fixed it. They also used some anti virus software. I have an annual contract with them and they take unlimited calls.

    If you want the "fix", I think you will need to take a step back, mull over all possible remedies, organize a step by step approach, and use the process of elimination, one by one. When you triage the problems they will fall into two categories. Not the problem and still the possible problem.

    In the case of my old HP Slimline I deemed that the time and effort to upgrade it from Vista Home Premium was more than impractical, that it would run on Vista better than on Win 8. So I left it alone.

    Hiya

    Thanks for your response,

    I believe the issue could be more of Windows 8 / Software incompatibility, as I have tested all hardware within the system and it is passing tests fine ranging from benchmarking and stress testing. I have tested each stick of memory in the system overnight with Memtest 86 and both sticks passed fine. As for the optical drive error which couldn't read my Dirt 3 installation disk I have downloaded Burn in test and tested the optical drive with that disk in it and its reading the disk fine in Burn in test so I'm not sure why event viewer was flagging up that error.

    I have to agree that Windows Defender does not seem the best protection available as it failed to flag up this threat: Exploit: Java/CVE-2013-0422 It only detected it after I manually set it up to scan the system even though it was meant to be set on realtime protection, it was around this point that the system started freezing a lot and was just generally lagging at simple tasks e.g. internet browsing and word processing. I then decided to reinstall Windows 8 Professional 64bit again before doing this I secure erased the hard drive and then installed Windows again. Since reinstalling things seem to have improved a lot the system is not freezing at the moment, but I am just concerned re the event viewer errors / warnings and also why SFC can't repair the corrupt windows files. I am now also using ESET Smart Security 6 on Windows 8 instead of the standard built in protection.

    I see you've said that the error ID 1005 is fixed by a Norton download? I have never had Norton installed on this system before.

    Thanks for your help.
