    Windows 8 boot problem

Well I'm back again with a problem I can't figure out.

    Here's my situation...
Dual boot system with win 7 and 8
c drive has the MBR (uefi mb but set fully to operate under mbr) with win 7.
g drive has windows 8 and boots fine under the win 7 multi-boot menu. There's also a 750MB 2nd partition on that drive.

the g drive is a standard drive. I got an ssd to move faster. I used paragon migrate os to ssd to clone the partition to the ssd. Everything seemed to go fine. The disk looks good in explorer (health and active) but when I try to boot that drive from the menu I get a 'winload.exe' error. (missing or corrupt but it is there)

    I've tried bootrec, diskpart etc.
Any ideas on how to get this drive to boot?

A uEFI install will only install to GPT setup HDD.

Can you post a screen shot of Disk management?

Ok, I went back to my existing system for now. I eliminated the ssd and I boot from my win7 CDrive and I can go into 7 or 8 under that menu. BOTH disks are MBR not GPT. So apparently it is possible to install win 8 on a non uefi board with mbr.
I wish I could remember how I did it.

On a side note I did a clean install of Win8 on the ssd while it was the only drive in the system (had do gpt for that). It installed fine but whenever I plug in ANY other drive it chokes and goes into a boot loop. I have 5 other drives in this system and no matter which one I add it does the boot loop. Also the system is set to auto which is suppose to let it boot under uefi or mbr.
Here's a shot of my system without the ssd.
well. apparently no pic. When I click the image icon there is no 'browse button' or box under the my computer tab.

    Thanks
p.s. this was sent from windows 8 on an mbr disk.

Are you using the newest version of Paragon Migrate OS to SSD version 3.0? Because the earlier versions did not support Windows 8. I tried doing a migration of my Windows 8 installation to another drive using the last version and like with you, Windows 8 would not boot. There is a freebie software called Aomei Bakuper which I have used to successfully migrate Window 8. This was on an MBR disk.

    Thanks for that info LittleJay.
I may end up trying that.
I now used farstone recovery to make the gpt disk bootable and I can now boot from the text menu to the ssd. I did a clean install so I was wondering if it's now possible to restore the other win 8 partition with all my programs to the gpt primary data partition.
I'm afraid to try cause I might get back to square 1 but it'd be nice to just restore that image.

Here's my existing system. K drive is the only gpt disk in the bunch.
I'd like to restore the image of the G drive to the K partition. Do u think it would work?

The dialog box to upload a pic worked now so here it is...

Sorry mate, but I have never done something like that, so I really don't know. Theog is the expert in these matters and I am sure he will be checking this thread out sometime.

no problem. you gave me ideas.
at any rate i'll mark this as solved because I am now able to boot into win7, win8 on mbr and win8 on gpt.
I wouldn't mind getting the graphical boot manager back but I can certainly live with the text one. It's no big deal.
I'm almost done installing my software on the ssd. The thing smokes along pretty well so it's probably a good thing I did a clean install anyway.

Yes, I agree. A clean install usually works the best, especially on a new SSD. Good to hear you got things sorted, except for the graphical boot manager. I personally have Windows 8 and 7 installed on separate SSDs with Windows 8 set as the first boot disk. When I want to boot 7 I use the bios one time boot menu. I prefer that to having multiple entries in the boot sector of my primary disk.
