How to easily remove Right Click > New items in Windows 8

I've used TweakUI since Windows 9x to easily remove Right Click New items, for example, all MS Office entries pictured below.

TweakUI 64-Bit does not work on Windows 8 and so-called Tweak software like Ultimate Windows Tweaker lack this feature. Programs such as ShellMenuView do not clearly display Right Click New items so you can easily disable them. They display general right click items - not Right Click > New items.

I have spent the entire morning and found only 1 (one) program that clearly displays Right Click New Items to be disabled but it is $30 (Windows 8 Manager) and I have no need for its other features, just to quickly and easily remove Right Click > New items so $30 is steep for that.

Does anyone know of any alternatives for Windows 8?

    EDIT: Here it is:

CCleaner> Tools> Startup> Context Menu. Uncheck the item that you don't want. And it's free.

Actually it is quite easy to take out items that you don't want displayed under New context menu:
    Open Run->regedit

    under: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

You'll see all the application extensions, for example: .doc is for word, .xls is for excel etc.....

Whatever you don't want to have displayed in New , just delete the keyword: shellNew for that item.

    Here's mine:

I spent the entire morning looking for the easy software solution and still have not found it. But to address the above posts:

    1. I've seen many threads talking about CCleaner, which I have and use. CCLeaner and many other programs list general Right Click options, not Right Click > New options.

    2. It's actually not very easy at all. You have to know exactly which subkeys to look for it takes time.
[By the way, there were eight sub keys for the screen shot in post #1 above, not counting txt link:] How to easily remove Right Click > New items in Windows 8 - Overclockers Forums

We need a TweakUI replacement for Windows 8 which simply lists Right Click > New, not general right click. I have CClenaer showing almost two dozen entries whereas I now only have one txt link in my Right Click > New.

I don't know how to make it clearer.

.xls is a file extension for Excel Spread sheet
.doc is file extension for Word Document
.ppt is file extension for powerpoint
.mdb is file extension for access database
    etc......

For example: All you need to do is right click on the desktop->New->Text Document and a new empty text file is created with an extension .txt
So in order to find out what extension associated with a file, you would do the same as above. That only involves a couple of clicks.
Once you know the filetype extension then go to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and look for that extension, under that tree, there's only one subkey called ShellNew and delete it.

a complete path for .doc is: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.8\ShellNew
a complete path is for .txt is: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew

here are 2 examples for word document & Text document:

topgundcp, thank you for posting detailed instructions on how to locate the correct subkey in registry containing the information which needs to be deleted in order to remove items from Right Click > New menu.

What if there were twenty right click menu items, or perhaps fifty? What if there were more?

I am exaggerating to make a point: While certainly the task could be accomplished in the end, this is why we need TweakUI-equivalent for Windows 8, which would allow us to complete such a task with just a single quick mouse click:

I will post in this thread when I finally find it one day, but would really appreciate it if someone else bumps the thread if they find it first.

I can't think of any body would be doing something like that.

Any hu, Here's what you ask for: ShellMenuNew - Disable/enable 'New' menu items in Windows Explorer

It does better job than TweakUI, no need to install and you can just disable/enable instead of removing the entry.

    [QUOTE=topgundcp;182565]topgundcp! Thank You very much.

I actually contacted that author asking him to create a Windows 8 compatible program like that and he already had it, I don't know how I missed it.

    Great help, thank you.
