Backup and restore win 8 boot manager?

I was having some problems getting a multi boot system up and running with both win 7 & 8 but with some help on this great forum I was able to accomplish that feat.
The problem now is...
Win 7 is on an ssd by itself. Win 8 is on a 200GB partition of a 1TB drive.
I now want to put Win 8 on a separate and new ssd.
I have images of both the ssd (win 7) and the win 8 partition (only). (Farstone Recovery)
I am NOT using UEFI. My asus board is setup for (auto) and all drives have MBR's.

If I do a restore to the new SSD I don't think it will restore the boot manager for win 8 since I only imaged the partition right?

I've noticed that if I choose an OS or option other than the default the computer actually starts another boot procedure to get to that OS. I assume that's normal under win 8.

Anyway, if my assumption is correct. Is there a pretty safe way to backup and restore the boot manager if I restore to the new ssd?
I'm afraid to use EasyBCD because the last time I did that I lost the graphical interface and it went back to the win 7 boot manager.
Do you think using bootrec /fixmbr would put it back after restoring?

TIA
