So; now that we know the OS is not responsible for OP not being able to access the BIOS, what could it be?

So OP, we need to rule even the most unlikely things out regardless of whether you think they're to blame or not.

Make sure with 100% certainty the the monitor can display what the motherboard is producing; if you have embedded graphics as well as a graphics card, one would hope you have tried plugging into the embedded one by now. Make sure your monitor works.

Make certain the keyboard is recognised, try another USB port and/or another WIRED keyboard.

If your motherboard doesn't have a system speaker on board, get one and plug it into the header and listen for beep patterns.

All of this done with no disk drives installed at all.

Remove all but one of your RAM modules.

    Remove all PCIe cards.

If you have a spare power supply, use it to rule out a defective unit that "appears" to be working.

And stop arguing that Windows 8 is messing with your BIOS for heavens sake! It's not.

the OS was never responsible for the problem OP was having ,his motherboard does not [as stated in earlier post ,but i dont see why a 2 year old board would not support win8 ] support win8 ,so win8 making changes to the bios is a dead issue in the thread ,my humble opinion ,and the opinion goes on ,to say ,that OP is going to be surprised when his new bios chip acts the same way .if it was a bad bios it would not boot past the bios !!we'll have to wait and see

original poster says he has a 2 year old computer ,and Asus says it not compatible with win8 ,i say why not my 5 yr old Dell works fine .and it does not have UEFI and i have no problem booting to the bios .

below is quote from asus ,about a updating bios feature ,I'm adventurous ,this is what i would try if it were mine

    EZ-Flash 2

Simply update BIOS from a USB flash disk before entering the OS
EZ Flash 2 is a user-friendly BIOS update utility. Simply launch this tool and update BIOS from a USB flash disk before entering the OS. You can update your BIOS only in a few clicks without preparing an additional floppy diskette or using an OS-based flash utility.

    4. Should I just accept that I can never access my BIOS Settings, or never change my bootdevice priority?
    5. Why do Microsoft and/or Forum Members not warn of the Win8 problems with computers without UEFI? Please see below for some of my other disappointments with the Win8 upgrade on a traditional BIOS system.
    Try turning fast startup off.
Thank you znod! I was going crazy trying to figure out why I could not get into the bios on the computer I built last week. I have a new Intel DX79SR board and was not able to, F2 into the bios, or see the bios prompt menu until I disabled Fast Start.

You can get into BIOS with the Quick Boot set Enabled only by either rebooting into the Advanced Boot Menu or Booting from the OS/Repair DVD if your priority is already set to DVD first.

Either way, if you have a UEFI BIOS, there's always a way in other than F2/DEL

You have to be really clever to devise a way to truly lock yourself out of the UEFI BIOS.
