Beginner - Windows 8 - disabling suspension mode

Need help. Not good with computers. Just purchased computer with Windows 8. Don't know anything about it. 1st problem is how do i disable the "suspension mode"?

Do you mean sleep and hibernate?

Right click on the desktop, Personalize. Screen Saver. Then Change power settings. You can change detailed aspects of your power plan there, including hibernation and sleep

Sorry for being so dense. The Windows 8 is my son't computer and he said when he was on AOL, after not using for a bit, "suspension mode" appeared and he was disconnected. We both are very inexperienced with computer. any help would be appreciated.

THat sounds like an AOL type issue. I dont use AOL. Are you walking about the AOL website or the AOL program?

I don't know. He was on his e-mail on AOL

Maybe someone else can take this one. If he saw an actual "suspension mode" text on screen, that doesnt sound like a Windows issue. Ive never seen that before.

If I were you, first try checking and changing your Hibernation/Sleep settings first the way the Tutorial link above shows you. See if that corrects your problem

Do as davegx explained above and it should resolve the issue.

Appreciate everyone's help. I will print out these instructions and try. I just hope I down crash the whole system.
