Hi, I hope someone can help. I have an Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop that was originally Vista but now is running 8 pro.
The problem I have is that since I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, I no longer receive an on-screen message warning of low battery level.
I however still have the battery level indicator in the task bar, which still functions correctly.
Any comments,ideas welcome.
Regards Dominic

Did you do an upgrade installation of Windows 8 over vista or a clean install?

Hmmm... can you describe a bit more in detail about the lack of notification?

Do you mean there is no banner notification that comes up that says, "Your battery is running low. You might want to plug in your PC?" On the Desktop, I don't think there is an actual popup notification that says that.

yes , that is exactly what i mean. I think you have got the message 100% correct.

The message appeared two maybe three times at most just in the first couple of days.

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windows7/Check-your-laptop-battery-health-in-Windows-7.html

Check this link out, it has a few command prompt lines you need use to do this. This will check and see if your battery is holding a good charge.

Considering your laptop is from the vista era, very good chances are that you need a new battery. I've come across a few laptops that weren't holding a good charge and Windows would say there was a certain amount left and a certain time left, but the battery drained out faster than what was to be expected.

I have experienced the same with my Lenovo:

Here is probably the reason for such:

When I did the upgrade, my battery life definitely INCREASED, I was curious why and the "Balanced Option" was by default used, which I didn't have selected in Windows 7. It's made a huge difference with my battery life.

They have a battery saver tips app you can download that will also help you with monitoring it's power cycle. I've been using that and not having any issues with low power notifications.

Yes I do.

I would check your settings in the listed place and definitely download that Windows Store App I told you about. It's GUI is cool and shows you the power from like a discovery channel perspective. Really cool stuff. Hope that helps. I would give you the name but it's on work laptop still on docking station. I'm on my beefed up XP but its a battery power app. It shows the battery all big with the power in green.

Read this: (Kinda supports my theory but from the MS view)

Just as a bonus question Dom, when you have that issue does your laptop screen blackout too and go into a hibernation mode?

Mine does that if the power cord is left out and I don't get to my laptop. I do get the notice at 10 percent to plug in to power source.

I'm sure if you try the balanced mode, that should change things for you if you set your power plan accordingly.
