Xp was refreshingly stable, compared with earlier Windows, but in the first few months after release, systems using it, regularly went into a sort of limbo for a few minutes - it wasn't a crash, it was just nothing got in or out, and all interaction ceased, and then it recovered and things worked as normal. After using Windows 8 betas and previews without any such episodes, for a long time now and not experiencing this sort of behaviour, Windows 8 Pro with WMC is doing the same thing.
It is almost like the OS communing with God for a short while, and I know it happened with Windows 7 too - to a lesser extent - mostly due to Service Host processes, but never taking up so much of the resources that everything else had to wait. Yeah, it's Service Host again, taking up all available memory and writing stuff to disk, keeping everything else in suspense. What I really hate is that Task Manager has no precedence over these events, and it has to sit there, not responding, until there are sufficient resources available for it to start properly.
Do'nt ya just love it, when the honeymoon is over and you just have to adjust to the realities of married life?
